"You have no idea." This little phrase, nearly a colloquialism the way it gets thrown around these days, got me to thinking the other day.
Maybe you do__have an idea, I mean. Possibly, even probably, you could comprehend what it is that I and everyone else are experiencing if we took the time to explain rather than uttering 'You have no idea', wandering off shaking our virtual [or physical] heads. I mean, how many disparate occurrences are there that we cannot at least associate on some level, to some degree?
So where did this 'You have no idea' come from? Do we envision ourselves so separated from each other that even our slang has become riddled with remotisms to be thrown out in apparent shrugging disregard? Sad. Maybe we should start with that when we begin on our restructuring process...the one where we begin to reconnect and build a better and more cohesive society.
You totally get me!
ReplyDeleteAnd we do this so thoughtlessly. So many things...
DeleteI fear ramble enough as it is..
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought I kept it fairly well contained. LoL
DeleteThis is where I believe it comes from - these phrases like, "You have no idea." ... And to help me explain my thought, I shall reference an episode of Allie McBeil (sp?)
ReplyDeleteIn one episode someone asked Allie, why her (Alley's) problems were bigger and more important than anyone else's and Allie replied, "Because they are my problems."
And I think that is how we, as individuals, go about perceiving most of the world ... as though we are center of the universe and our problems are greater and more important then anyone else's ...
It is only when we talk and share our stories with others and allow them to share their stories with us, that we realize - Maybe you do understand and can relate ...
*shrugs*
*nods* And why I think maybe we need to acknowledge that in each other more. I believe we get so caught up in the extreme hustle of day to day that we forget to connect or maybe just simply forget how.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I had no idea you felt this way . . .
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad you let me know it. LoL
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how much better I feel now.
DeleteHere is one thought for 2013 from Lynn Wins.
ReplyDeleteI am you. Yes, I really am.
If you think it would hurt your feelings, it would hurt mine.
I am not stronger than you; I AM you.
If you figured it out, don't try it on me. I will see right through it, and be insulted.
I am not dumber than you, I AM you.
If you need it: money, respect, love, companionship, forgiveness, time--I need it too.
Your needs are not greater than mine. They are the same as mine. I AM you.
If you can't help it, I probably can't either. It might look different: you swearing, might be my eating; your temper, might be my shopping addiction.
You aren't more frail than me--we are the same.
I AM you.
And I will try to remember.
You ARE me.
Did you write this? It is excellent.
ReplyDeleteI did. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi, how are you?
ReplyDeleteFine.
People say things that are less than the words they utter. Social convention leads us not to communicate.
