Today I saw the first woolly worm of the season. It was very fuzzy. He reminded me of a Lhasa Apso as he went trundling down the pathway. His coat was so long and fuzzy it made him look like he was waddling__just like the LA's do when they're in a hurry. And for some reason this little guy seemed to be in a big hurry. Maybe he knows something we don't.
They say if the woollies are all brown then it will be a mild winter__half brown/half black, a medium winter. Black in the middle with two brown ends then you're going to get the majority of your winter weather in the middle of the season and the reverse is true if the colors are reversed [this is what happened here last year]. Late last Fall our few woollies were mostly brown with a little bit of black on either end and sure enough we got a bitter blast of cold in October and then more cold late season but for the most part our winter was pretty mild. This little guy was all black...with a long fur coat.
Hmm.
So ... does all black mean a blizzard of a winter?
ReplyDeleteI am not thrilled at this thought ....
Uh-oh, better get a good winter coat and stock up on provisions, and maybe tie a line between the house and barn (garage?) to prepare for the great blizzard.
ReplyDeleteYep, if the tales hold true then it's going to be a bit*h of a winter, at least here in the mid-Atlantic region. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll be bad for you, Miki, or for you Rei. Come to think of it, does it ever get bad where you are, Rei? LoL
ReplyDeleteYou know, I don't think we have fuzzies here... at least not so you'll notice. As for winter, I expect that it will last from October to at least the end of May every year. I expect that we'll have at least 3 weeks of -40 or colder weather long about January... and I don't mind it. I mind the lack of light more than the cold any day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cute fuzzy. Did you take the pic?
I'm still trying to figure out how to take a decent pic with my very first ever cellphone. In fact [and I hate to admit this out loud in print] I'm not sure I've figured out how to make a Call with the da*ned thing. I still remember hauling a separate light meter around. LoL
